DETAILS: The following commentary is offered in advance of the January unemployment rate announcement due Friday from the U.S. Department of Labor:
"We expect to see another positive jobs report for January, but a precise number is difficult to predict due to the impact of the holiday on last month's figure. Regardless, the seasonally adjusted number for the month should be strong.
"Despite higher interest rates, rising energy costs, and an expected increase in wage inflation, we anticipate that the economy will sustain its job creation pace and produce two to two and a half million jobs for the year.
"The supply of credentialed, experienced professionals is tight and will continue to be under pressure. A strong demand for permanent and temporary employees continues to escalate across the entire employment spectrum. Technical sectors including engineering and information technology in particular are experiencing growth."
