TROY, Mich. (Sept. 8, 2005)¯Kelly Scientific Resources, a business unit of Kelly Services and the world leader in clinical and scientific staffing, today announced the winners of its Future Scientists scholarship program. Five college students earned scholarship awards through their written explorations of contemporary scientific topics.

“Today's science students bring fresh perspectives to modern scientific thought, and our Future Scientists program develops and promotes their career opportunities,” said Chris Jock, vice president and general manager of Kelly Scientific Resources. “We are pleased to provide these interns with career opportunities working alongside some of the world's finest scientific professionals.”

The winners
The overall winner of the 2005 Kelly Scientific Resources Future Scientists scholarship is Kevin Ma of Parkville, Mo. Enrolled as a biomedical engineering student at Johns Hopkins University, Ma's exceptional essay on stem cells earned him a $3,000 educational scholarship.

Other winners:

  • Brandon Rapier of New Palestine, Ind., pursuing a master's in biology at Ball State University, earned the third prize of $1,500.

  • Jason Lee Romrell of Draper, Utah, an engineering student at the University of Utah, and Dustin Rubink of Sandy, Utah, a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University, both earned honorable mention prizes of $750.

Kelly's Future Scientists Program was established in 2000 to help connect entry-level science students with jobs, internships and research opportunities at major chemical, pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the United States. The program provides a bridge between the scientific expertise of students and professors in academia and the personnel and recruiting needs of the science industry.

Kelly Scientific Resources invites Future Scientists interns who are placed on temporary assignments nationwide with Kelly's industry partners to compete for scholarships by submitting essays on contemporary scientific topics. Scientific professionals at Kelly judge the essays and select an overall winner and four runner-up awardees.
