Magnussen was selected from among more than 9,000 Kelly substitute teachers nationally as the winner for the 2003-2004 school year. She has worked as a substitute teacher for 23 years and joined Kelly Educational Staffing in 2003 when Kelly began its contract with the school district.

"Margo's classroom management techniques are superior, and she delivers the lesson plan in a lively and meaningful manner," said Richard Anderson, principal of Bemidji High School. "Her ability to convey warmth and understanding while remaining firm in her expectations is a real bonus in the job she performs."

The National Substitute Teacher of the Year award was developed to recognize a Kelly substitute teacher for their outstanding work in the classroom. The award is based on performance feedback from permanent teachers and school administrators.
